Creating the space for all to play is what makes tennis in the Mid-Atlantic region special. We are proud to announce that USTA Mid-Atlantic Associate Director of Development, Catie Dugan Vargas is a finalist for the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce’s 2023 Community Leadership Awards in the Young Professional Leader category.
Catie is being recognized for her work leading and implementing USTA Mid-Atlantic’s Girls Rule the Court™ (GRTC) program in Loudoun County. The program promotes health, wellness, and teamwork while building self-esteem through tennis for young girls. Girls Rule the Court participants learn the basics of tennis in a fun and rewarding environment led by female tennis coaches and mentors.
In 2022, Catie helped establish Girls Rule the Court in three Loudoun County Public Schools as an after school program, reaching young girls with limited access to the sport. USTA Mid-Atlantic plans to continue the program in Loudoun County Public Schools in 2023 so that more young girls can gain access to tennis and the social emotional benefits the sport provides.
USTA Mid-Atlantic is proud to have an ongoing and active role in the Loudoun County community to increase access to tennis now, and well into the future with plans to build a best-in-class tennis campus in the county. The USTA Mid-Atlantic Tennis Campus will be community-first and open to the public. It will feature 20 outdoor courts, 16 indoor courts and 8 pickleball/youth courts and 35,000 square feet for USTA Mid-Atlantic programmatic activities, events, and community initiatives. With 36 courts, robust year-round programs, and daily tennis and wellness activity, the campus will contribute a significant economic impact of an estimated $8.5 million annually for the region, and be a catalyst for community-building.
